Attendance
Whole School Attendance
Intent
At Moorbrook School, we understand the critical role that regular school attendance plays in the academic, social, and emotional development of our students. Our intent is to create a supportive environment that encourages and facilitates improved attendance among our students, particularly those with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. By focusing on whole school attendance, we aim to ensure that every student has the opportunity to benefit from consistent school engagement and to achieve their full potential. Our objective is not only to meet the requirements outlined in the National Curriculum in England but also to place a special emphasis on improving attendance rates as part of our broader commitment to student success and well-being.
Implementation
To achieve our attendance goals, Moorbrook School will implement a multi-faceted approach that includes:
1 Key Worker Calls: Each student will be assigned a key worker who will maintain regular communication with the student and their family. These calls will serve to identify any barriers to attendance and provide necessary support and encouragement.
2. Engaging Lessons: Teachers will develop and deliver lessons that are engaging and relevant, cultivating a classroom atmosphere that motivates students to attend regularly and participate actively.
3. Lancashire Attendance Team: We will collaborate closely with the Lancashire Attendance Team to monitor attendance patterns and receive professional guidance on best practices for improving attendance. This partnership will enhance our capacity to address attendance issues proactively and effectively.
4. Family Support Worker (FSW) and the DSL team : Our Family Support Worker and DSL’s will work with families to tackle any home or personal issues that might hinder a student's ability to attend school. FSW and DSL interventions will include home visits, family meetings, and connecting families with meaningful resources.
Impact
The success of our whole school attendance initiative will be primarily measured by analysing attendance figures. We aim to see a measurable increase in overall school attendance rates, indicating that students are more frequently attending school and benefiting from the educational opportunities available to them. Additionally, we will monitor improvements in student engagement, well-being, and academic performance as indirect indicators of improved attendance.
By fostering a culture of regular attendance, Moorbrook School is committed to providing our students with the support they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
